CAIRO: The calendar year 2015 will see two celebrations of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, Dr. Ashraf Tadros told Youm7.
The holiday takes place every year on the same day of the Islamic calendar, 12 Rabi I; the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, and is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. The previous birthday celebration took place Jan. 3, 2015.
The phenomenon of the twice-yearly celebration occurs every 33 years, Tadros added.
The birthday of prophet Muhammad is marked with sweets and dolls being sold in the streets.
