CAIRO: Two people were killed and 11 others were injured, all from the same family, in a road accident when a truck collided with a microbus in Bilbeis -Cairo speedway, a security official told Youm7.
The dead bodies were transported to the Bilbeis morgue; meanwhile five of the injured were transported to the Bilbeis hospital, while the rest were admitted to the Zagazig University Hospital, Sharqia security director Hassan Seif said.
According to the initial investigations, the victims were riding in an open pickup truck and heading to Cairo to offer condolences for a deceased, but their truck collided with a microbus with no passengers.
The reason of the collision was not revealed yet.
In 2015, a total of 592 people were killed, and 1,222 were wounded in road accidents, a security source told Youm7 Dec. 25.
A total of 6,916 car accidents took place during the first half of 2015, with an increase of 3.5 percent compared to 6,685 in the same period last year, according to a recent bulletin by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS.)
Egypt has recently been escalating measures to monitor road safety, through applying random drug-test to drivers, checking on car licenses, building new roads and renewing old ones as part of a national road project.
