CAIRO: The governorate of Alexandria saw heavy rains Thursday, and looks poised to welcome the new year with poor weather.
Traffic has dramatically slowed in the Suez Canal areas as well as the Alexandria Desert Road.
Alexandria was hit by huge wave of showers in October, leaving streets inundated with pools of accumulated rain water submerging trees, cars and sweeping into homes.
The government was harshly criticized for failing to deal with the issue, despite receiving earlier warnings from the Meteorological authority about the unstable weather.
In the wake of the crisis, the governor was replaced and the President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi ordered to fix the drainage system in Alexandria and other governorates including Beheira.
