CAIRO: The Alexandria Port Authority (APA) decided to temporarily close Alexandria and Dekheila straits to navigation Friday due to bad weather, increased wind speed and increased wave heights that reached 3 meters, Youm7 reported.
“The authority decided to close the port to prevent ships from colliding with each other or with the dock,” Fatehy Taha, APA acting chairman was quoted by Youm7 Friday.
The ports will be re-opened once weather improves, said Taha.
A wave of unstable weather accompanied by low temperatures, active winds and heavy rains has hit several parts of Egypt, particularly the Mediterranean city of Alexandria Wednesday.
Meteorologists expect the unstable weather to last till Sunday.
