CAIRO: Three children were killed Friday after a fire broke out in their apartment in Egypt’s Delta governorate of Dakahlia, Youm7 reported.

The children; two boys and an eight-month girl, were trapped in the apartment after their mother locked the door and went to work. The mother is the family’s breadwinner while the father is imprisoned.

Some of the local residents of the district were unable to rescue the children who were screaming asking for help.  The ceiling of the apartment is made of wood. However, the firefighters managed to put out the fire before sweeping to adjacent buildings.

Investigations were opened to identify the cause of the fire, while the dead bodies were transported to the morgue.

On Dec. 30, a huge fire erupted at a building in Garden City in downtown Cairo. No causalities were reported. Meanwhile, some nine cars were burned in a fire that took place in an oil company garage in Sedi Gaber district of Alexandria. The fire was extinguished, and investigations have been opened into the incident.
