CAIRO: Two passengers, an Egyptian and an American, have been arrested by Cairo Airport authorities over attempting to smuggle drugs, Youm7 reported Saturday.

Before boarding a flight to the Qatari capital of Doha, the Egyptian passenger’s bags were inspected by customs department officials, who found 2.5 kilograms of Tramadol tablets hidden in his luggage.

An American citizen of Jordanian origins, arrived Saturday from Amsterdam, tried to smuggle 13 grams of crude Hashish oil. Customs officials arrested him and confiscated the drugs.

Police reports have been filed about both incidents.

Over the past months, customs officials at airports have repeatedly stopped several attempts to smuggle drugs, money and artifacts.

Last week, Cairo Airport foiled attempts to smuggle concealable cameras hidden inside personal parcels coming from United Arab Emirates, Singapore, China and the Netherlands
