CAIRO: A total of 26 “terrorist elements” were killed and five suspects were arrested Saturday during security raids in North Sinai, according to a Sunday military statement.
The raids were carried out under an air cover in Arish, Sheikh Zuwayed, Rafah and some areas in Central Sinai, according to the Defense Ministry statement.
The campaign also destroyed a mini truck and four motorcycles used by takfiris to target security posts, and dismantled 18 explosive devices on the routers of the forces.
Two explosive material storehouses were destroyed; three machine guns and a sniper gun were seized, as well as binoculars, 63 bullets and seven sacks of TNT.
Earlier on Sunday, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir reported that a wanted “terrorist,” Abdullah Salman Salem, was arrested in a campaign based on intelligence.
Another person on a camel was arrested in possession of the TNT sacks and the weapons, as well as food on route to extremists.
