CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi ordered Monday the opening of the Suez Canal Floating Bridge after four years of closure to ease the shipping traffic at the entrance of East Port Said, said Major General Kamel al-Wazir, head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Monday.

“President Sisi ordered the bridge open for shipping movement through the Suez Canal due to the traffic of ships at the ferry slip of al-Qantara of East Port Said Entrance, Wazir added in remarks to media during his visit to the bridge.

The bridge that links African continent with Asia from Suez to Sinai, has been closed following the January 2011 uprising.

It was inaugurated during former President Hosni Muabark’s era in 2001 and was constructed with Japan.
