CAIRO: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese will lead the Coptic Christmas mass at St. Mark Cathedral in Abassiya Wednesday evening, Youm7 reported.
A presidential delegate, as well as with an array of statesmen and public figures will be present. President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi attended the Coptic Christmas mass held last year.
Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb along with Grand Mufti of Egypt Shawky Allam and Awqaf (Religious Endowment) Minister Mohamed Mokhtar had visited the St. Mark Cathedral in Abassiya Tuesday and congratulated Pope Tawadros II on the Coptic Christmas.
Coptic Orthodox Christians, who represent approximately 90 percent of Egypt’s Christians, break their 43-day fast and celebrate Christmas on 7 January based on the Coptic calendar.
