CAIRO: The United Nations Academic Impact program and the ELS Educational Services Inc. have launched an essay contest for college and university students on the theme of multilingualism and the role it can play in fostering global citizenship and cultural understanding.
College and university students 18 years of age and older are invited to write an essay in one of the six official UN languages, including Arabic, on the theme. Sixty winners – 10 for each of the official UN languages – will be selected to attend a weeklong Global Youth Forum in New York and speak at an event in the UN General Assembly in July. This is the third annual “Many Languages, One World” contest organized by the UN program.
The contest deadline is 31 March 2016 and more information, including contest rules and eligibility, can be found at http://www.els.edu/en/ManyLanguagesOneWorld. The United Nations Information Centre in Cairo asks the media, partners and other interested parties to kindly assist in spreading the word about this inspiring opportunity.
