CAIRO: A court session to rule on the detention of a Sudanese woman will be held Jan.9, after she allegedly attempted to smuggle 2.5 kg of hashish at the Cairo Airport, Youm7 reported Friday.

Amina S., a Sudanese national, was leaving the country when she was arrested at the airport for hiding drugs in hollowed-out wooden shoes, according to airport customs’ sources.

She will remain in pre-trial detention until investigations into her case end.

Over the past months, many passengers have been arrested and referred to investigations over smuggling drugs, money and artifacts.

As hundreds of attempts are being foiled by customs’ authorities, a few incidents revealed smugglers seeking different ways in contraband.

In Dec.21, a passenger was arrested Sunday at the Cairo Airport for trying to smuggle a total of 620 grams of hashish inside his shoes.
