CAIRO: A bomb went off near a high school in the center of Arish city in North Sinai governorate, resulting in no casualties, Youm7 quoted eyewitnesses Saturday morning.
The blast has slightly affected nearby houses.
In Egypt, Friday and Saturday is the weekend for governmental institutions and schools.
At the meantime, security authorities have raised state of alert in western and central Sinai to arrest wanted armed men.
The army has arrested hundreds of suspects following terrorist attacks witnessed in the northern tip of the peninsula. Lately, dozens of the detainees have been released after they were proven not involved in the attacks.
Egypt is cracking down against a rising insurgency in North Sinai, which has targeted and killed hundreds of soldiers. The army campaigns claimed lives of hundreds of militants, damaged many smuggling tunnels and seized weapons.
The attacks have escalated since the 2013 ouster of the President Mohamed Morsi.
