CAIRO: The North Giza Criminal Court sentenced 18 people to five year rigorous imprisonment over charges of attempted murder of Zamalek Sporting Club President Mortada Mansour, Youm7 reported.
The court also acquitted three other defendants including Sayed Moshagheb, alleged leader of hardcore supporter group known as Ultras White Knights (UWK007.)
The convicts, reportedly members of the UWK007 faced numerous charges including attempted murder and possession of firearms for the purpose of assassinating Mansour.
On Aug. 17, Mansour filed a police report claiming that as he was leaving his office in the early hours of the morning before the fans attempted to shoot him, hitting two of his companions and injuring him.
Following the police report, a total of 22 suspects were arrested after investigations revealed that they are members of the Ultras White Knights group who objected to Mansour’s decision to ban the group from attending the football team’s practice sessions inside the club.
