CAIRO: The Ministry of Antiquities will retain ownership of wooden shims that were stolen from the Dome of Abbasid Caliphs near the Mosque of Saida Nafisa in Cairo.

The beams had been put up for sale at a U.K. auction house, the ministry announced on its Facebook page Sunday.

The dome dates from the 7th and 8th centuries, and once the beams are repatriated they will undergo a restoration, the ministry announced.
