CAIRO: Egyptian parliamentarians Al Sayed Mahmoud el Sherif and Soliman Wahdan were elected to the position of parliament speaker’s deputies, Youm7 reported.
El Sherif, the “In Support of Egypt” coalition candidate, won the first deputy speaker seat during a vote held at the procedural session Sunday after granting 345 votes out of 542 valid votes.
Meanwhile, Wahdan won the post of the parliament speaker’s second deputy after re-election that took place Monday. Wahdan won the post with 285 votes while his rival Alaa el Din Abdel Moneim collected 281 votes from 566 valid votes.
House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal called for holding another session Tuesday to form a committee tasked with setting the bylaws and another to review decisions issued in the absence of the parliament.
The parliament still has to elect heads and members of its 19 specialized committees.
