CAIRO: The Turkish authorities deported Tuesday 12 Egyptian nationals after being arrested in the southern city of Adana, Egyptian Foreign Minister Aide for Affairs of Expatriates and Consulates Hesham al-Naqib announced.

A Turkish court ruled that the group be deported home, noting that the Egyptian Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Turkish side to accelerate the deportation procedures.

The Egyptian nationals, members of one family with three children, had been arrested over accusations of belonging to the Islamic State group (IS,) according to an Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement Monday.

They were arrested in the southern city of Adana in an illegal migration attempt to allegedly join IS, which controls swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, the statement added.
