CAIRO:  The Al Zubara, one of the world’s largest eco-friendly cargo ships has crossed the Suez Canal Wednesday morning to continue its voyage from the Far East to Europe; the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Mohab Mamish was quoted by Youm7.

The gigantic vessel has a capacity of 18,650 twenty-foot containers (TEU,) according to Mamish.

Technologies deployed on the Al Zubara include shore-to-ship power supply for zero emissions as well as energy efficient integrated system to optimize machinery operations, propulsion systems and navigation decision-making technologies, according to www.cruiseshipposition.com.

The United Arabs Shipping Company’s (UASC) vessel is named after the Zubarah district located on the Qatar peninsula.
