CAIRO: An engineer and a driver of a driller were ordered detained over the collapse of a residential building in Delta’s Sharqia governorate, which killed at least nine people Tuesday, reported Youm7 Thursday.

Aziz M., an engineer and Hani G., a digger, will remain in detention for four days pending investigations into accusations of manslaughter, after they were carrying out construction works in a building adjacent to a six-storey building that collapsed in Minya el-Kamh city.

The owner of the digging area Magdy Skeina, who is not among the defendants, previously defended himself as working legally, blaming faulty construction to the ill-fated building as causing the accident, due to overloading.
