CAIRO: The 23rd Egyptian International Marathon kicked off Friday from Hatshepsut Temple in the western bank of Luxor, Youm7 reported.

Over 350 runners from 19 nationalities are participating in the event which is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Youth, Chairman of the event Gasser Riad was quoted by Youm7 Friday.

It is the only AIMS (Association of international Marathons and Road Races) certified Marathon in Egypt, said Riad.

The event is a bid to revive Egypt’s flagging tourism sector that has been hit badly following the 2011 uprising.
