Egypt takes over presidency of IRENA for 1 year term

CAIRO: Egypt has officially taken over the presidency of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) from Japan; Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker was quoted by Youm7 Saturday.

This came during the IRENA’s sixth session of its annual Assembly currently convenes in Abu Dhabi. The assembly convenes annually to discuss and decide upon issues including work programs, the budget, and the adoption of reports, applications for membership and potential amendments to Agency activities.

Shaker traveled to Abu Dhabi Friday to attend the 9th round of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) Jan. 18-21.

The summit focuses on the future of the global renewal energy programs and its investment opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa region in light of recent drops in oil prices.
