CAIRO: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail requested a U.K. parliamentarian delegation on visit to Cairo to expedite the resumption of British flights to Egypt, according to a Monday Cabinet statement.

Egypt is keen on delivering the utmost security at its airports, Ismail told the delegation, headed by Sir Alan Duncan, a Conservative Party politician.

Ismail said he looks forward to the U.K. move to encourage other countries to make the same decision. Since a Russian plane crashed over Sinai Oct. 31, 2015, the U.K. banned flights to Egypt.

He emphasized investment opportunities in the country, especially in the ambitious Suez Canal Axis project, as well as gas and oil exploration, noting that the government legislation are to be issued to facilitate foreign investment.

The meeting, also attended by U.K. Ambassador to Cairo John Casson, involved answers to several questions by the delegation members on investment projects in Egypt and economic policies, according to the statement.
