CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Tuesday with chairperson of the Military Engineering Authority (MEA) and other concerned Ministers to develop the tourist area of Giza Pyramids, said Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef in a statement.
That the meeting tackled the plan concerning the development of the Pyramids of Giza area in light of improving the services provided to the tourists in this archeological site, Youssef added.
The meeting was attended by President’s aide for strategic studies and former Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahalb, Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh al-Damaty, Minister of Tourism Hisham Zaazou, Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly, and head of the General Organization for Physical Planning.
Following the Russian plane crash that killed 224 passengers and crew, a number of countries including Germany, Russia, France and the UK ordered the evacuation of their nationals from the resort town, after reports that a bomb may have been the cause.
The country’s revenues from the tourism industry decreased by 15 percent in the 3rd quarter of 2015 compared to the same period last year, said tourism ministry economic advisor Adala Ragab in October.
Revenues from tourism represent 11.3 percent of Egypt’s gross domestic product (GDP.)
