CAIRO: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov arrived in Cairo Tuesday in a several-day visit to discuss cooperation and regional issues with Egyptian officials, Youm7 reported.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with Russian special envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev Dec. 26, and discussed international efforts to fight the Islamic State group (IS,) as Egypt supports the Russian military intervention in Syria.

The Egyptian air military fleet will be supplied with Russian President-S onboard defense systems against anti-crafts missiles, Russian News Agency TASS reported Dec. 26.

Both Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have cultivated strong relations since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. Putin visited Egypt in February 2015, while Sisi has visited Russia three times as of August 2015.
