CAIRO: Upper Egypt’s Asyut had reported 12 deaths from swine flu (H1N1,) Youm7 Thursday quoted a medical source at the health directorate in the governorate.

Around 57 reportedly contracted the virus after their medical tests confirmed their infection.

In the Delta, the sixth death from swine flu in the coastal governorate of Beheira was reported Thursday. Last week, some 79 out of 221 suspected cases reportedly contracted the virus in the governorate.

Officials denied a mass outbreak of the disease similar to that in 2009. Some governorates raised emergency state at hospitals to prevent the spread of the virus.

Some 10 people died of seasonal flu in Asyut , while 13 recovered and 30 are receiving treatment, according to MENA.

Egypt is also witnessing annual deaths due to avian flu virus (H5N1,) with the death toll reaching 41 in 2015. The virus first appeared in the country in 2006 with most cases detected in impoverish rural areas that raise poultry.
