CAIRO: Egypt launched their African Cup of Nations campaign with a 22-18 win over defending champions Algeria in the tournament’s opener Thursday,YOUM7 reported.
The Egyptian team dominated the game with a strong performance as they won the first half 11-7, benefiting from playing at home.
The competition acts as the African qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August. The top three teams will qualify for the World Cup in France Jan 11-29, 2017.
Twelve national teams, in two groups, are participating in the tournament.
