CAIRO: Cairo airport authorities seized a small remote controller drone with HD camera reportedly used in spying purposes, Youm7 reported Saturday.
Customs officers suspected a two-kilogram parcel coming from the United Arab Emirates, and by inspecting it, they found the drone hidden inside.
The owner of the parcel is expected to be questioned over the incident, as these kinds of planes are banned in Egypt as per a military resolution.
Similar incidents of confiscating spying devices with passengers at airports have frequently occurred over the past months.
In December 2015, airport authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle sunglasses supporter with concealable cameras that were placed inside a parcel coming from UAE. In another incident, customs officers seized eight watches supported with high quality cameras coming from Singapore, China and the Netherlands.
Customs officials at airports have repeatedly stopped several attempts to smuggle drugs, money and artifacts on board of flights, where many Egyptian and foreign passengers were busted accordingly.
