CAIRO: A national security police officer died Saturday affected by his wounds from a Giza explosion that left at least seven policemen killed last week, Youm7 reported.

The explosion occurred in a residential building located 15 meters far from Haram Street. It took place when a police raid was prepared to storm an apartment in the building after a report saying it hosted “terrorists,” according to Youm7.

The newspaper reported that around 20 police personnel were about to storm the building before a huge blast took place leaving 10 victims among the police and civilians.

It was reported that the apartment, where the explosion occurred, housed bombs and explosive devices, added Youm7.

The Sinai-based branch of the Islamic State (IS) group, branded itself as Sinai Province, claimed Friday its responsibility for the Giza blast, in an online statement quoted by several media outlets.

The group has carried out numerous attacks in North Sinai, claiming the lives of hundreds of soldiers.
