CAIRO: A total of 3,462 jailed students across Egypt will be allowed to take midterm tests in special exam rooms, according to a Tuesday statement by the Interior Ministry.

The students are jailed pending different trials, and the Prison Authority will coordinate with the Education Ministry for school students as well as universities to allow the students to take the exams, the ministry said.

The number of students who have not been allowed to take tests is uncertain, but the statement did not cite students who have received final sentences.

Thousands of people have been arrested in the aftermath of the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi over illegal protesting, blocking roads and belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood; which Cairo ruled a terrorist organization in December 2013.
