CAIRO: Two low-ranking policemen were referred to trial Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe from a drug dealer to help him escape, Youm7 reported.
The two policemen are charged with negligence, influence peddling and bribery, as they accepted a bribe of 20,000 EGP ($2,550,) from a defendant to let him escape while being transferred to 6th of October First Police Station.
The now at-large convict had been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Investigations revealed that the policemen were complicit in the staged escape in the city south of Cairo.
The prosecution had ordered the detention of the two defendants during investigations before it finished a memo to bring them to justice.
