CAIRO: The fourth edition of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival kicked off Saturday at the Luxor Culture Center with a screening of the Palestinian film “3000 Nights” for director Mai Masri, Youm7 reported.

Egyptian actress Lobna Abdel Aziz was selected as honorary president of the festival while Egyptian actress Boussy was honored at the inauguration ceremony which was attended by Culture Minister Helmy al Namnam.

More than 50 films from 30 countries are participating in the official competition of this year’s edition, Executive director of the festival Waded Shoukry was quoted by Youm7. The festival will run until Feb. 5 with its closing ceremony scheduled to take place at the 4,000 year-old Karnak Temple, said Shoukry.

Several Arabic films from Tunisia, Syria and Morocco will be shown in the festival’s official competition. The Italian cultural institute will also screen a series of films featuring the development of the Italian film industry, according to Shoukry.

Four Egyptian films will be screened during the festival including El Leila El Kbeera, starring Somaia el Khashab and Amr Abdel Galeil.
