CAIRO: Two policemen were killed and four injured Sunday after an explosive device detonated on the route of a security unit south of Rafah, a medical source in North Sinai told youm7.
The victims were transferred to Arish Military Hospital, the source said.
An army colonel and three soldiers were killed under similar circumstances Wednesday, AP reported. North Sinai Security Chief Ali Abou Zeid was dismissed two days after the attack, Youm7 reported.
The Islamic State group’s affiliate in Egypt, known as Sinai Province, has claimed responsibility for most attacks in North Sinai. President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has said on several occasions that militants operate in less than one percent of North Sinai’s total area.
