On February 6, Hurghada city will host its first interactive festival for handicraft, under the title: “Hurghada Happy Festival”. The event is organized by the Directorate of Social Solidarity in Hurghada, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). with the help of JICA volunteers participating in “Family Products Department” and nursery teacher volunteers working in Family and Childhood Department at Red Sea Governorate; This event aims to provide support for family products centers in Hurghada, promoting their activities and products, as the festival will include an exhibit for handicraft products, and a workshop for the Japanese art of paper folding “Origami”.
The Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) is one of JICA’s technical cooperation programs that had been introduced to Egypt in September 1996, and since then JICA dispatched 262 volunteers to Egypt. JICA volunteers are expected to live among the people of the country to which they are dispatched and pursue their activities with the local people to contribute to the country’s socioeconomic development, making effective use of their abilities and experiences.
It is mention worthy that every each year, JICA sends 1.300 volunteers who are skilled and experienced in specific fields to 87 countries around the world, to provide cooperation in around 200 fields in nine main categories: Agriculture/ Forestry/ Fishery, Mining and Manufacturing, Energy, Planning/ Government, Business/ Tourism, Human Resources, Health/ Health Care, Public Works/ Utilities, Social Welfare Services.
