CAIRO: A police officer and a conscript were killed Thursday after their armored vehicle turned over on Arish-Qantara Road in North Sinai, a security source told Youm7.

The victims are first Lieutenant Assem Ahmed, 28 and Sherif Ibrahim, 21. Conscript Ibrahim Hamouda, 21, was injured in the accident in western Arish city.

The source said the victims and the injured conscript have been transferred to Arish Hospital and that investigative bodies will soon carry out a probe into the incident.

North Sinai is the site of security turmoil, as Egypt’s Islamic State group affiliate the Sinai Province is based therein; hence armored vehicles and tanks are heavily deployed in the area.
