Antiquities Ministry to work on restoring ancient burial mound near Suez

CAIRO: The Antiquities Ministry have begun restoration and cleaning work on an ancient burial  in Ismailia, 11km west of the Suez Canal region, the ministry announced Monday on its Facebook page.

Dr. Mahmoud Afifi, the head of the Egyptian Antiquities Ministry in Giza, said the temple is 300 meters long by 150 meters wide, and dates from the 26th Dynasty.

He pointed out that the interest in the site is part of the plan which the Ministry of Antiquities in the development of archaeological sites located axis of June 30.

“The burial site is the best model to illustrate the history of Egypt’s ancient military and military architecture,” said Mohammed Abdel-Maksoud, the general coordinator of the project to develop the archaeological sites.
