CAIRO: Ambassador David Thorne, the Senior Advisor to Secretary of State John Kerry, is in Egypt to meet senior Egyptian officials, business executives, and representatives of U.S. businesses operating in Egypt. Ambassador Thorne will underscore U.S. partnership and support of Egypt’s economic development.  “Egypt and the United States have a long history of cooperation,” Ambassador Thorne said, “and I am pleased to be here and to see firsthand the results of that cooperation and to explore avenues for further engagement.”

In addition to his meetings in Cairo, Ambassador Thorne will travel to Luxor to visit U.S. Agency for International Development-sponsored projects and highlight the critical role of Egypt’s cultural heritage and antiquities preservation as a vehicle to promote tourism and economic development.

Ambassador David Thorne was named Senior Advisor to Secretary of State in August 2013.  Among other duties, Secretary of State John Kerry has asked Ambassador Thorne to lead a broad effort to position economic and commercial issues more prominently in U.S. foreign policy.  Ambassador Thorne is also working to elevate the importance of entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation in the State Department’s promotion of global prosperity.
