CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Tuesday with former Vice-President of South Sudan Riek Machar, to discuss the August 2015 accord between conflicting parts in South Sudan, stated Egyptian Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

Sisi stressed Egypt’s support to the national reconciliation efforts, adding “Egypt will continue its exerted efforts with all parts of the peaceful settlement to form a transitional government in southern Sudan,” the statement added.

In December 2013 violent clashes broke out between the government and the armed opposition in Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, led by Machar, but the both sides put an end to the violence by signing a compromise in August 2015.

In his speech at the Peace and Security Council meetings on the sideline of the 26th African Union Summit, held in Addis Ababa on Jan. 29, President Sisi asserted Egypt’s support to the stability in South Sudan, praising the agreement signed among its conflicting parts.
