CAIRO: The Foreign Ministry is following the case of Egyptian citizen Walid Hamdy who was killed in Riyadh by four Saudis Monday; Youm7 quoted Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Ambassador Hisham al Naqeeb Wednesday.
“Hamdy’s corpse is now kept in the morgue of the King Saud Medical Complex in Riyadh in preparation for its transfer to Cairo,” Naqeeb said, adding that the Saudi nationals, all from the same family, were arrested and referred to the public prosecution for legal measures.
A video showing Hamdy’s dead body on the ground went viral on social media. Hamdy, 36, who worked as a sales representative for a construction company, was involved with the Saudis in a brawl, Youm7 quoted eyewitness Tuesday. He was reportedly hit on his head by a pair of scissors before the Saudis tied him to their car and ran him over, according to the eyewitness.
Minister of State for Migration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram said that the ministry sent an envoy to accompany the body of the victim in the morgue along with legal representative to follow up on the ongoing investigations.
