CAIRO: Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State David Thorne arrived in Luxor Thursday for talks about developing new strategies to boost Egypt’s economy and promote the tourism industry, Youm7 reported.
Thorne was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Cairo Robert Stephen Beecroft along with Egyptian International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr. The trio went sightseeing to Sheikh Abd el Qurna, Assasif, Madinet Habu and Deraa Abu el Naga archaeological sites where renovation works are being carried out by U.S. archaeological missions and research centers.
They also visited projects funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID.)
Thorne, who arrived in Cairo from the UAE Tuesday, met senior Egyptian officials, business executives, and representatives of U.S. businesses operating in Egypt to discuss opportunities for cooperation on support for the Egyptian economy, U.S. Department of State stated Friday.
“Egypt and the United States have a long history of cooperation,” Ambassador Thorne said in a press release Thursday, “and I am pleased to be here and to see firsthand the results of that cooperation and to explore avenues for further engagement.”
