CAIRO: An officer at the Suez Traffic Administration was ordered jailed on Friday for 15 days pending investigations over accusations of bribery, Youm7 reported.

The police suspected a car at a motor show, and investigations revealed that Major W. L. rigged the license of the car, according to the prosecution.

The owner of the motor show reportedly told the prosecution that he gave the officer 4,000 EGP ($510,) to produce legal documents for the car.

In December, four policemen were ordered jailed pending investigations over bribery, after allegedly threatening undeserved traffic tickets to drivers in Cairo’s upscale district of the Fifth Settlement.

The Police Traffic discreetly filmed some of the officers accepting bribes from drivers.

In Transparency International’s Global Corruption Barometer of Egypt in 2013, the police received 78 percent of respondents’ choice of corrupt/extremely corrupt with 38 percent reported having paid a bribe thereto.
