CAIRO: Three people were injured by birdshot in violent clashes between supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood and locals in Sharqia, the Delta, Friday, Youm7 reported.

The Brotherhood supporters held a demonstration in Manshiyet el-Sheikh Nasser area in the city of Abu Hammad, but anti-Brotherhood locals intercepted the protest. The Brotherhood protesters used flares and Molotov cocktails in the clashes, according to Youm7.

Those injured were transferred to Abu Hammad General Hospital. The police dispatched forces to the area to contain the clashes, but none have been arrested.

In 2013 and 2014, Brotherhood protesters took to streets almost every Friday after noon congregation for Islamic prayers, but such protests have largely subsided in recent months.

The euphemistic description of military thugs as “locals” does not fool anyone. These are paid thugs used by the military and police and sheltered by the corrupt judiciary.
