CAIRO: A number of Alexandria families whose homes were affected by waves of flood that hit the city last year will receive Sunday new furniture delivered by the Ministry of Solidarity, Youm7 reported.
The families have reportedly received new housing units after their rainwater accumulated in the streets of the Mediterranean city in November 2015 swept into their homes.
At that time, the ministry announced compensation of some 300,000 EGP ($38,000) for around 76 cases whose assets were largely affected by the rains. The ministry also announced a payment of 10,000 EGP to each family of the victims who were killed in accidents related to the weather.
Shabaan is an Alexandria citizen whose apartment was flooded amid the city’s unstable weather, whose picture showing standing with his legs immersed in water that inundated his home and resting his head on his refrigerator attracted sympathy by many social media users.
Shaaban reportedly received a compensation of 5,000 EGP ($622) from the government.
Alexandria has been the most affected governorate in a wave of weather change across the country, with water inundating its streets and covering cars, trees and cornich.
