CAIRO: Eight officials at the Transport Ministry were referred to rapid trial over accusations of wasting of public money, Youm7 reported Monday.
The referral decision was made by the Administrative prosecution after charging the officials with involvement in squandering millions of Egyptian pounds.
The referred officials include: Undersecretary of the Transport Ministry, head of Traffic Regulation Authority in Cairo and Planning Engineer at the General Authority for Roads and Bridges.
The Ministry of Transport has been in hot water over the past week after crashes related to its outdated railway system, which needs billions of pounds to be restored.
Last year, the former Minister of Agriculture Salah Hilal was referred along with three other officials to trial in December 2015, over accusations of accepting bribes to facilitate the sale of lands in Delta.
