CAIRO: The Ministry of Antiquities will hold a Golden Jubilee celebration on Feb. 21 and 22 to celebrate the biannual solar phenomenon at the Temple of Abu Simbel, when the sun passes over the face of a statue of Ramses II.

The ministry announced on its website Tuesday that Minister Mamdouh el-Damaty called on all domestic and international journalists to contribute to the revitalization of Egyptian tourism, which has suffered since the January 25 Revolution in 2011.

Restoration work on the statues was completed 50 years ago, according to the ministry, which added that artwork depicting the statues and their journey will be on display until 2018.
