CAIRO: A low-ranking policeman was ordered detained on Wednesday over alleged sexual harassment of a woman in the metro, Youm7 reported.
The victim and her husband identified policeman Medhat H. three times among different groups of people presented to them by the prosecution, according to Youm7.
The woman, identified as Ghada, was at Marg metro station, northeast of Cairo, with her husband, Mohamed, and son, Youssef, when her husband left to buy something; meanwhile, Medhat allegedly propositioned Ghada.
After Ghada refused to “go home” with him, she said he groped her at gunpoint and stole her purse, which contained a relatively large amount of money worth approximately $144.
The prosecution will speak to Youssef, 8, on Thursday, and documented phone numbers provided by Mohamed who claimed he received threats on the phone to drop the case.
The National Council for Women has expressed solidarity with Ghada and said it follows the case.
