Egypt’s Parliament speaker participates in Mediterranean parliamentary assembly

CAIRO: Egypt’s speaker of parliament Ali Abdel Aal has focused on the current security challenges in the Middle East during the 10th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM,) held in the Albanian’s capital of Tirana, Youm7 reported Friday.

Speaking at the opening of the assembly Thursday, Abdel Aal also reviewed the security situation in Libya and highlighted Egypt’s effort to solve the Syrian crisis in a peaceful way. He also tackled the peace process and the Palestinian-Israeli situation.

Abdel Aal headed the Egyptian delegation the comprised of seven parliament members. On the sideline of the assembly, the delegation met with Albanian President Bujar Nishani Thursday, according to Youm7.

The assembly was inaugurated Thursday morning during a ceremony addressed by Ilir Meta, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament and Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania.

The assembly meetings were dedicated to open debates on the future strategies and policies to be adopted by the member states. It also tackled measures undertaken to face challenges of the Mediterranean region through the instruments offered by parliamentary diplomacy.
