CAIRO: Bomb disposal units have defused two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Giza’s district of Haram Friday, Youm7 reported.
The Civil Protection Agency were notified of two suspicious cars parking outside a traffic unit in Giza’s Faisal Street before bomb squads immediately inspected them. By searching the two cars, two water heaters, packed with explosive devices, were found, security source told Youm7.
The forces reinforced its presence and cordoned off the area before successfully defusing the IEDs, the source added. Investigations were opened to notify the owners of the two cars.
Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
