CAIRO: Egypt’s Higher Education Minister Ashraf el-Shehy has approved the establishment of a new university in North Sinai’s town of Al Arish, Deputy President of Suez Canal University Habash al Nady told Al Ahram Friday.
The decision to found the new state-funded university was approved during a Thursday meeting of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities, said Al Nady, adding that the decision has been submitted to the presidency for final approval.
The university will comprise of 12 faculties including those of commerce, agriculture, environmental science, medicine and engineering, he added. A hospital will be also established within the university campus.
Egypt has over 20 state-funded universities and over 50 private universities.
