CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s support to Iraq’s “unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity” during his meeting with Iraqi counterpart Fuad Masum, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef Monday.
“President Sisi underlined the historic and distinct relations that bind the two countries and their people and emphasized Egypt’s keenness to further enhance them at all political, economic and cultural levels, Youssef stated.
Large swathes of Iraqi territory have come under the control of the Islamic State group. Although Egypt has focused on fighting IS within its borders it has not sent the Egyptian army outside to fight.
President Masum valued Egypt’s armed forces’ national role that averted Egypt the scourge of chaos and violence, praising the efforts of anti-terrorism, Youssef continued.
“Masum looked forward to effectuating agreements signed with Egypt to boost cooperation and to take advantage of Egypt’s expertise, particularly in industrial and agricultural fields,” Youssef said.
