CAIRO:  President Abdel Fatah al Sisi mandated Defense Minister Sedki Sobhi to lay a wreath of flowers Wednesday at the Unknown Soldier memorial in Cairo’s district of Madinet Nasr to mark Egypt’s Martyr Day, Youm7 reported.

Egypt’s Marty Day falls every year in March 9 as late chief of staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lt. General Abdel Moneim Riad was killed during the war of attrition between Egypt and Israel in the same day in 1969.

Sobhi was accompanied by Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy and senior leaders of the Egyptian armed forces. He also mandated commanders of military zones and field armies to mark the day with laying wreathes of flower on memorials across the country.
