CAIRO: Head of the Egyptian Union for Radio and Television (ERTU) Essam al Amir has temporarily suspended state TV anchor Azza el-Henawy “pending investigations,” Al Ahram reported.

The decision is based on a report submitted by the performance evaluation committee of senior ERTU officials who reportedly examined Henawy’s Sunday episode of Akhbar al Qahira (meaning Cairo news,) talk show in which she slammed President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi for calling on Egyptians to work hard for the sake of the country, while, according to her, he “does not.”

“Egyptians are working but most of the country’s leaders, and may be all of them are not, and in fact, you [President] are also not working; there is no one single file that you have solved so far since you assumed your position as a president of Egypt,” said Henawy in the Sunday’s episode of talk show.

Al Amir instructed the committee to revise the episode and submit a report on her professionalism and objectivity in addition to the extent proportionality of Henawy’s performance in relation to the nature of the talk show.
